What is eDPI?
eDPI (effective dots per inch) is mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity. It turns two settings into one number, so a player at 400 DPI / 0.7 sens and a player at 800 DPI / 0.35 sens both have 280 eDPI — identical real-world sensitivity, even though their in-game numbers look different.
That makes eDPI the only fair way to compare sensitivity between players, or to copy a pro's settings when your mouse runs a different DPI.
Typical pro eDPI ranges
Tactical shooters run low: most Valorant pros sit between roughly 150–400 eDPI, and CS2 pros between 600–1,100. Faster games run higher — Apex pros commonly use 800–1,600, and Overwatch 2 sensitivity is on a different in-game scale entirely, which is why its numbers look huge.
Lower eDPI gives finer micro-adjustments at the cost of bigger arm movements; higher eDPI gives faster turns at the cost of precision. Neither is “correct” — the pro ranges here are simply where most professionals land after years of refinement, which makes them a sane starting zone rather than a rule. If your eDPI is far outside the range for your game and your aim feels inconsistent, moving toward the range is usually worth a two-week adjustment period.
Note that eDPI does not transfer directly between games, because each game maps sensitivity to rotation differently. Comparing eDPI is only meaningful within the same title.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate eDPI?
Multiply your mouse DPI by your in-game sensitivity. 800 DPI × 0.35 sens = 280 eDPI. Two players with the same eDPI have the same real sensitivity regardless of their individual DPI settings.
What is a good eDPI for Valorant?
Most Valorant pros use roughly 150–400 eDPI, with many clustered around 200–300. Popular combos are 800 DPI with 0.25–0.45 sens or 400 DPI with 0.5–0.9 sens.
Can I compare eDPI between different games?
No — each game converts sensitivity to rotation differently, so 280 eDPI in Valorant is not the same turn speed as 280 eDPI in CS2. Compare eDPI only within the same game.
Should I use 400 or 800 DPI?
At the same eDPI they feel nearly identical. 800 DPI with a lower sens is slightly smoother on modern sensors because the mouse reports finer increments. Pick one and adjust in-game sens instead.
