Two pints, twenty percent apart
The US liquid pint is 16 US fluid ounces, exactly 0.473176473 L. The imperial pint is 20 imperial fluid ounces, 0.56826125 L. A British pint of beer or milk is therefore 20% larger than an American one — the reason a “pint” glass in a US bar holds 473 ml and the same word in a UK pub means 568. The calculator converts the US pint and lists the imperial pint alongside; a 2-pint UK milk carton is 1.14 L, a US one 0.95 L.

Rough conversion in your head
A US pint is just under half a litre, so two US pints is roughly a litre (0.95 L). A UK pint is just over half a litre (568 ml), so a litre is 1.76 UK pints — the “one and three-quarter pints” printed on British milk. Eight US pints make a US gallon; eight imperial pints make an imperial gallon.
